Biography

Martin Sarzier’s work lies at the intersection of the sociology of work, professions, health, and aging. In his dissertation, he examined the processes of specialization that shape the medical profession, studying the emergence and establishment of geriatric psychiatry in France. His recent research, combining ethnography and statistical analysis, has focused on the reproduction of social inequalities in health within the care of individuals with cognitive decline. He is now studying the mechanisms of age assignment, their socializing power, and challenges to these mechanisms in various institutions providing care for the elderly. Martin Sarzier is contributing to the development of a sociology of age relations, notably as part of the RÂGE collective.
