This presentation will discuss findings from analyses of mixed methods longitudinal survey, disease biomarker, focus group and life history interview data (1992-2018) to examine how people aged through apartheid and post-apartheid South Africa, the causes and consequences of its major infectious and chronic disease epidemics (including HIV/AIDS, hypertension and diabetes), and its complex lines of health, racial and economic inequality. The study draws from 12 years of team-based research in northeast South Africa, and is the focus of a book in progress.
