Holistic admissions has been used in various forms in the U.S. for over 20 years, but there are intersecting issues with cognitive bias and data that need to be addressed. In this presentation, I discuss how holistic admissions works in the U.S. higher education system, my experimental work on cognitive bias in the admissions process, new contextualization data tools that have been developed from this research, and new data on the equity impacts of these tools. I will also discuss how holistic admissions is diffusing on a global scale, and common drivers and issues across country contexts.
