Marcela Alonso Ferreira

Marcela Alonso Ferreira is a PhD student in Political Science at Sciences Po’s Centre for European Studies and Comparative Politics since 2020. Her research project, under the supervision of Patrick Le Galès, will examine political processes and policies that shape urban expansion in large metropolises of the Global South, in comparative perspective.
Marcela Alonso Ferreira has obtained her Master’s degree in Public Policy and Management from Fundacao Getulio Vargas and her Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and Urbanism from the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Her professional background is in urban policy and governance. Before joining Sciences Po, she has worked as senior technical advisor at Sao Paulo City Hall, as project coordinator at URBEM, and as a consultant to the World Bank Group and Cities Alliance. She has also developed independent research with CIPPEC, Instituto Escolhas and the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy.
