Since 1995, the Sciences Po Cartography Workshop has become a benchmark in the graphic representation of the major issues of our time. It is now part of the Institute for Skills and Innovation (ICI) at Sciences Po.
History of the Workshop
Coming soon
The work of the Cartography Workshop follows directly in the footsteps of Jacques Bertin, the founding father of graphic semiology. By placing legibility and visual rigour at the heart of its creations, the Workshop carries on his legacy: turning complex data into visualisations that are immediately understandable and scientifically rigorous.
Training students and supporting faculty at Sciences Po, creating content and resources for these same audiences and sharing them as widely as possible (tools or Map Library). On a more occasional basis, the Cartography Workshop also offers its expertise to research programmes, museums, international organisations and publishers. The common thread: contributing to Sciences Po’s mission of shedding light on contemporary issues.
The team keeps a firm command of technology, with each member bringing their own expertise (data analysis, geographic information systems, programming, international relations, design, etc.). This diversity of skills ensures that the team can keep pace with a rapidly changing world and adapt to the varied needs of its audiences.
