Doing an internship at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Would you like to do an internship with the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs? The MEAE offers you the opportunity to do an internship in France or abroad, with a wide variety of missions on all continents.

Procedure to follow to submit your application

Please note that in order to ensure fairness and openness of internships to as many as possible the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE) allows:

  • One long internship (more than 44 days) throughout the entire university course
  •  A short internship each academic year, unless you do a long internship that year
Section #etape-1

Step 1: Search for an internship

Before starting your search, it is important to ensure that the dates of your internship align with the requirements of your academic program (end-of-studies internship, gap year internship, optional mid-semester internship) and the period of your administrative registration at Sciences Po, which is August 31 of the year of your graduation.

If  you have any doubts, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Step 2: Online application and application procedure

Apply online

  • All internship applications must be submitted to PASS
  • You can have up to 5 active applications at the same time. As soon as you receive a negative answer, you can re-enter an application, and there is no overall or annual limitation on the number of applications.

The application procedure consists in two steps

  • You apply directly online for the internship you are interested in on PASS,
  • You fill in the 'Formulaire de candidature à un stage étudiant' only in PDF format (document attached to each offer):
    • "Candidate Information" section" and "Your Educational Institution's Approval" section: Registration number/Partnership number with the MEAE (here), Mr/Mrs, course of study, and available period for your internship must be completed by you.
    • The form does not need to be printed

For all students

You must send to scpo.carrieres@sciencespo.fr:

  • The description(s) of the internship offer(s)
Section #etape-3

Step 3: Validation of the form by Sciences Po Careers

After reviewing your internship application by Sciences Po Careers, the completed form will be returned to you by email.

You can then finalize your application on the PASS portal by attaching the form to the internship offer.

Note : You can use this form for all applications you may wish to submit to the MEAE within the specified dates.

Step 4: MEAE response and agreement

The MEAE will review your application. If necessary, you may be asked to participate in one or more interviews. If your application is accepted, you will receive a response by email from the MEAE, requesting  your formal acceptance within 72 hours.

In case of positive response from you, the MEAE will send you a pre-filled internship agreement.

Congratulations,  your application has been accepted! There are now two important steps left to finalize your application and start your internship:

  1. Indicate the name of the Sciences Po Director (Luis Vassy) and the name of your reference teacher in the designated section (see the useful information sheet). Once this information is completed, send the agreement to scpo.carrieres@sciencespo.fr. Note that any incomplete agreement will be returned to you.
  2. Declare your internship on your student account. This step is essential for the inclusion of the internship in your academic school.

There is no need to print the Sciences Po agreement.

Step 5: Signing of the MEAE Internship Agreement

Once the declaration is made on your student account, Sciences Po Careers will verify the agreement information.

Once signed, you will receive the final version of your agreement, which you will need to attach to all required documents (ID, Individual Security Obligations Charter, civil liability and repatriation certificate, and potentially a bank account statement if the internship is paid).

In the list of documents to be attached, you will be asked to provide insurance certificates, which you can dowload from your student account under the Administrative Registration : "Your administrative record and your certificates" section.
