As a first year student, the civic internship is a compulsory part of your civic programme at the Undergraduate College. It is worth 3 ECTS credits and is an essential fieldwork component of your Bachelor’s degree.

​Specific and educational goals

  1. Actively participate in the affairs of the community and in concrete actions on the ground that aim to promote the public interest, equality and solidarity.
  2. Reflect on citizenship issues such as education, employment, environment, justice, health, etc. and to help you connect your disciplinary, multidisciplinary and methodological learning in the humanities and social sciences with your experience on the ground.
  3. Work in direct contact with the beneficiaries of the civic activities undertaken (examples: reception, facilitation, support, social assistance, etc.)

Conditions

  • This internship is compulsory for first year Undergraduate College students
  • To be completed off campus between mid-May and mid-August
  • Minimum duration: four to six consecutive weeks (140 hours minimum)
  • One month minimum in person internship (full time) within one organisation only
  • With a non-partisan, non-profit or public interest organisation, whether public, charitable or private
  • In France or in Europe
  • In the form of an internship or fixed-term contract

Steps and requirements of completion

Step 1: Declare your « civic engagement internship » online

Students must declare their Civic Internship online between July 7 and September 12, 2025 deadline, on the student space by selecting the appropriate category: internship, volunteer position, or fixed-term contract/CDD. Your proposed internship will be examined and approved by your campus Civic Internship Coordinator.

Step 2: The civic internship validation 

After the internship has ended and for final validation (worth 3 ECTS credits), students must submit the following documents on the online Civic Learning Program workspace (Section “3: The Civic Internship”):

  • The internship or volunteer certificate, download it on moodle, completed, signed and stamped by your host organisation, on the last day of your internship. 
  • For civic engagement internships completed under a fixed-term contract, a copy of your payslip.
