Declare an internship
You have found your internship? You may now declare it on your Sciences Po student account in order to get an internship agreement. This compulsory document should be signed by all parties (the student, the host organization, the internship supervisor, Sciences Po, the intern’s academic advisor) prior to starting your internship.
For all questions relating to ongoing internships and professional placements, please consult this FAQ page.
Are you planning to travel abroad for an internship?
Before leaving, make sure to check which documents or formalities you'll need to complete (school certificate, internship certificate, etc.) at the risk of being denied entry at the border!
For more information, look at:
- The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs website
- GoinGlobal (multilingual)
Step 1: Declare your internship online (compulsory)
Please note that the internship declaration on your Sciences Po student account should be done regardless of the type of internship agreement (i.e. whether the agreement is issued by Sciences Po or by your host organisation).
- Before completing your online internship declaration, make sure you have all the necessary information: see the guidelines to prepare the internship declaration
- You collected all the necessary information? You may complete your internship agreement request online (compulsory) on your Sciences Po student account
Step 2: Approval of you internship
A period of 5 business days is needed to obtain the approval of your internship agreement by Sciences Po Careers.
Step 3: Signature of the internship agreement
The internship agreement is a mandatory legal document which is required for any internship taking place in France. Internships conducted abroad are not subject to this requirement and do not require an internship agreement. However, we strongly recommend that you sign the Sciences Po agreement; otherwise, you must send us your local employment contract by email to scpo.careers@sciencespo.fr. Declaring your internship in your Student Account is still mandatory.
Your host organisation may then choose to use:
- The Sciences Po Internship Agreement (recommended): It should be printed from your online student account.
- The host Organisation’s Internship Agreement: Make sure to complete all the fields of the host organisation internship agreement before sending it to Sciences Po Careers for signature.
See the “Useful Information Form”
In both cases, 1 copy of the agreement has to be signed in the following order:
- By you (student)
- By the administrative representative of the host organisation
- By the internship supervisor of the host organisation
Declaring your internship from your Student account remains mandatory even if you use the employer's agreement.
In France, without an internship agreement signed by all parties prior to your internship start date:
- You are legally prevented from starting your internship
- You are not covered by any insurance
- Your internship is neither validated nor recognized by Sciences Po
