Certificate of Attendance

The Summer School awards a certificate of attendance and transcript to students who complete the programme, provided they do not exceed the maximum number of absences.

Exams, Grade and Transcript

Summer School students who meet attendance requirements will sit for exams at the conclusion of the session. Exams are held in the last days of the programme and their length varies depending on the track and course. Students who choose to sit for exams will receive a Summer School transcript with a number grade in addition to their Certificate of Attendance. Transcripts will be available online from mid-September.

Failure to comply with any of the duties and obligations listed in the Summer School Academic Policies (PDF, 284Kb) may result in the failure to complete the Summer School programme.

For Summer School students who are planning to apply to one of the Sciences Po Master's degrees requiring a minimum level of C1 in French language, a Summer School French Language track transcript may be used in lieu of a formal standardized test. The use of the Summer School transcript is valid only for those students who have successfully passed to the C1 or C2 level during their final exams at the Summer School.

Credit

Sciences Po awards academic credit for courses taken during the Summer School.  2017 students who received a passing grade of at least 10/20 and respected the Summer School academic rules and regulations (PDF, 284Kb) received the following number of credits:

  • Core course in the social sciences track: 4 ECTS
  • Core course in the French language track: 5 ECTS
  • Elective course: 2 ECTS

Students who attend two sessions of the Summer School receive credit for each session separately.

Additional Credit Options for French Language Track Students

DELF and DALF exams at the Alliance Française

In partnership with the Alliance Française Paris Ile-de-France, Sciences Po offers those French language track Summer School students who so desire the option to take the tests for the French Ministry of Education’s official Diplôme d'études en langue française (DELF – levels up to B2) or Diplôme approfondi de langue française (DALF – levels C1 and C2). Prospective students are encouraged to check with their home universities to see if they may obtain credit for the DELF or DALF if they are able to successfully pass the tests. Tests are held at the Alliance Française, a 15-minute walk from the Sciences Po campus.  Test-takers will sit for one written and one oral exam, held during the third and fourth week of the July session. They will receive an excused absence in the event of a conflict with their regularly-scheduled Summer School classes. Official results will be sent by mail approximately one month after the exam date.

The cost of the exam for Sciences Po Summer School students varies by level, and is to be paid in addition to the Summer School tuition fees. Depending on their knowledge of French, their ambition, and their home university requirements, students may elect to sign up either for the same DELF or DALF test as their Summer School language level, or to take the test at the level below. For example, a student in Summer School Level B2 may choose to take the DELF B2 or the DELF B1.
