Dr Musonda Mumba will deliver a keynote presentation on the role of the Convention—the world's oldest Multilateral Environmental Agreement—in shaping today's global environmental discussions. As a member of the Advisory Board for the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, she will highlight the critical importance of wetlands in addressing the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution and their essential role in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Dr Musonda Mumba
Secretary General of the Convention on Wetlands

Dr Mumba is a Zambian-born environmentalist with over 25 years of global experience in environmental management and sustainable development. She joined the Convention from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), where she served as Senior Advisor on the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and as Director for the Rome Centre for Sustainable Development. Prior to joining UNDP, Dr Mumba worked at the global headquarters of the UN Environment Programme for 12 years in different functions, including as Head of the UNEP Terrestrial Ecosystems Programme. Dr Mumba is the founder of the Network of African Women Environmentalists (NAWE) and has been named one the 100 most influential African women. On International Women’s Day 2022, she was honoured by the Global Landscape Forum (GLF) as one of 16 women from around the world restoring the planet. Dr Mumba started her career at the Environmental Council of Zambia, and has held positions with WWF. She holds a PhD in Wetland Hydrology and Conservation from University College London (UCL). She is an Honorary Senior Research Associate at UCL and a visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Perry World House (PWH) of University of Pennsylvania.

 

Agnès Hallosserie
Director of the Biodiversity Programme, IDDRI

As Director of the Biodiversity Program, Agnès Hallosserie is responsible for developing and implementing the biodiversity strategy of IDDRI. This includes activities to improve biodiversity governance, from international negotiations (e.g., the Convention on Biological Diversity) to implementation of biodiversity measures at the national level in various geographies and socio-economic contexts. An international relations graduate from Paris 1-Panthéon Sorbonne University, she started her career at UNEP-WCMC working on the integration of biodiversity in forest climate policies in the Congo basin. She then joined the French Foundation for Research on Biodiversity where she was head of the European and international coordination department, engaging at the science-policy on biodiversity through IPBES and the CBD.

Director of Sciences Po’s Institute for Environmental Transformations

Dr Charlotte Halpern is a Researcher in Political Science at Sciences Po’s Centre for European Studies and Comparative Politics. She is also the Director of Sciences Po’s Institute of Environmental Transformations and the Codirector of the Environmental Policies Research Group of LIEPP.
