Biographie
Les recherches de Manisha Anantharaman établissent un lien entre les inégalités sociales et la gouvernance environnementale. À la croisée de la sociologie économique et culturelle, de l'économie politique mondiale et des études urbaines, elle examine comment les idéologies économiques et politiques, les identités socioculturelles et les relations de pouvoir façonnent les transitions écologiques à plusieurs échelles, des ménages et des villes au milieu transnational. Ses approches de recherche sont comparatives et ethnographiques, s'appuyant sur un travail de terrain à long terme en Inde et sur des projets collaboratifs aux États-Unis, en Europe et en Asie du Sud-Est.
Elle a publié deux ouvrages : Recycling Class : The contradictions of inclusion in urban sustainability (MIT Press, 2024) et The Circular Economy and the Global South (Routledge, 2019). Elle est rédactrice en chef adjointe de Elementa: Science of the Anthropocene (UC Press) et Consumption & Society (BUP) et membre associée du programme Environnement et société de Chatham House.
