Firdus as a Place of Memory of Multiethnic Peaceful Coexistence

This is the first seminar of a series dedicated to the Memory of Displaced Communities in the South Caucasus, and organised by the research group “Beyond post-sovietism” (Sciences Po-CERI), in cooperation with ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen).

Referring to various cases developed for the research organization CSN Lab in recent years,Tigran Amiryan addresses topics such as migration and collective memory, coexistence and cultural memory, eco-migration and Soviet practices of community displacement, as well as migration and cultural rights. Through the project entitled “Firdus: the Memory of Place,” Amiryan aims to analyze the memory of the peaceful coexistence of Armenians and Azerbaijanis nbefore the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. The project “Kechut: Memory Under the Water” is an interdisciplinary study examining the forced displacement of a rural community due to the creation of a water reservoir in Soviet Armenia. Finally, through research conducted within the framework of the ifa edition "Culture and Foreign Policy"; Amiryan provides a comprehensive analysis of the impact of migration to the South Caucasus following the Russian war against Ukraine and the evolving situation concerning cultural rights in the region.
