Earl Wang est chercheur associé et chargé d'enseignement au Centre de recherches internationales (CERI) - Sciences Po/CNRS. Ses recherches portent sur la grande stratégie et la politique étrangère de l'Union européenne, notamment à l'égard de la Chine et l'Indo-Pacifique.

Il est également chercheur associé au domaine Europe-Espace Transatlantique-Russie à l’Institut de recherche stratégique de l’École militaire (IRSEM) du Ministère français des Armées. Il est membre du comité de rédaction de la revue European Review of International Studies (ERIS).

Il a obtenu un doctorat en sciences politiques (relations internationales) de Sciences Po, sous la direction du Professeur Christian Lequesne. Il a été visiting fellow dans des instituts de recherche à Athènes, Berlin, Bruxelles et Prague. Il enseigne au Collège universitaire, à l'École d'affaires publiques, à l'École des affaires internationales (PSIA) et à l'Executive Education de Sciences Po.
