Carola Klöck (née Betzold) a rejoint le CERI en septembre 2018 comme assistant professor en science politique. En 2013, Carola a obtenu son doctorat de l’ETH Zurich puis a travaillé à l'université de Göteborg en Suède, l'iuniversité d’Anvers en Belgique, et celle de Göttingen en Allemagne. Carola a été visiteure à l’Australian National University en Australie (en 2016) et à l’University of the South Pacific, sur son campus Laucala en Fidji (en 2018).

A l’interface de la science politique, la géographie humaine et les études du développement, sa recherche porte sur l’adaptation au changement climatique et la politique du changement climatique plus généralement. Actuellement, elle travaille sur la distribution du financement pour l’adaptation ainsi que les usages de ce financement au niveau local, notamment en contexte insulaire, surtout les petits Etats insulaires en voie de développement. Elle étudie aussi le rôle de ces Etats dans les négociations climatiques internationales.

Carola est co-auteure de Development Aid and Adaptation to Climate Change (Londres, Palgrave, 2018 ; avec Florian Weiler) et co-dirige actuellement un volume sur l’adaptation au changement climatique dans les petits Etats insulaires, résultat d’une conférence elle a co-organisée avec un financement de la Fondation Volkswagen (avec Michael Fink).

Au CERI, Carola est une des organisateurs du séminaire « Environnement et relations internationales ». Elle enseigne le cours Espace mondial, en allemand, sur le Campus franco-allemand de Nancy.
