The need for collective action has never been greater, but geopolitics, structural changes and diverging preferences mean that existing global governance arrangements, devised at Bretton Woods in the 1940s, are either unravelling or outmoded. Reconciling this contradiction is today’s pressing global policy challenge, made all the more urgent in the context of a Trump presidency that directly challenges the main tenets of the current international order.

To discuss the way forward in this new era, in collaboration with CERI, PSIA welcomes George Papaconstantinou, former Minister of Finance in Greece, and Jean Pisani-Ferry, Professor of Economics at Sciences Po. They delve into the theme of global cooperation in a world of geopolitical rivalries by examining governance practices across several key policy areas – climate, health, trade and competition, banking and finance, taxation, migration and the digital economy. They consider what works and what doesn't, outline a new agenda for global governance and discuss the role of Europe in this new environment.

This event is chaired by PSIA Dean Arancha González.
