Partnership with the Alliance Française Paris Ile-de-France
- Alliance Française Paris Ile-de-France
The Summer School is proud to partner with the Alliance Française Paris Ile-de-France, the Parisian headquarters of the international Alliance Française network. This partnership represents a great collaboration between two of Paris’s most prestigious educational and cultural centres of learning.
Students of the French language track can opt to formally assess their level in French by taking a national French language DELF or DALF exam administered at the Alliance.
Presentation of the Alliance Française
Founded in 1883, the Alliance Française Paris Ile-de-France has been spreading French language and Francophone culture for more than a century. Receiving about 10,000 students each year from 160 different nationalities, it is the leading centre in France for the teaching of French as a foreign language (FLE). Passionate about French language and culture, the 100 teachers of the institution all hold postsecondary degrees and are specialists in the teaching of French as a foreign language.
Besides running French language sessions, the Alliance Française administers the French Ministry of Education’s official French language assessment: the Diplôme d'études en langue française (DELF – levels up to B2) and the Diplôme approfondi de langue française (DALF – levels C1 and C2).
French Language track: the DELF-DALF exams (July session only)
Sciences Po offers those Summer School students who so desire the option to take the tests for the French Ministry of Education’s official Diplôme d'études en langue française (DELF – levels up to B2) or Diplôme approfondi de langue française (DALF – levels C1 and C2). Download an explanation of the Common European Framework of Rreference for Languages (CEFR) levels (in English and French, PDF, 140Ko). Please not that these exams will only take place during the July session.
Students who wish to take the exams in view of obtaining a diploma will do so at the Alliance Française, a 15-minute walk from the Sciences Po campus. Test-takers will sit for one written and one oral exam. They will receive their official results in the mail approximately one to two months after the exam date and their official certificate approximately six months later.
Prospective test-takers are encouraged to check with their home universities to see if they may obtain credit for the DELF or DALF if they are able to successfully pass the tests.
Depending on their knowledge of French, their ambition, and their home university requirements, students may elect to sign up either for the same DELF or DALF test as their Summer School language level (ie: students enrolled in Summer School Level B1 will prepare the material to validate the DELF B1), or to take the test at the level below (ie: if a student is enrolled in Summer School Level B1, but is unsure they will validate the level at the end of the session, they may opt to take the DELF A2).
Fees for the DELF-DALF exams
The cost of the exam is to be paid in addition to the Summer School tuition fees. In July 2020, the Alliance Française only offers the DELF B2 and DALF C1 exams. The fees for these exams are:
- DELF B2: 220 €
- DALF C1: 220 €
