Samuel B.H. Faure\u2019s thesis focuses on explaining these decision options. Each of the three varieties of decision in French armaments policy \u2013 autocracy, European cooperation and transatlantic importation \u2013 is determined by a \u201cconfiguration effect\u201d. The demonstration of these mechanisms draws on over 150 semi-directed interviews that Samuel conducted with former defense ministers, military chiefs of staff, senior officials and heads of the defense industry.<br \/>\nHis work was awarded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihedn.fr\/prix-de-these\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first prize by the Institut des hautes \u00e9tudes de d\u00e9fense nationale<\/a> (IHDEN \u2013 institute for advanced studies in national defense) in strategic studies and the Jean-Louis Quermonne thesis prize in European studies. Today he is a tenured lecturer and director of international relations at Sciences Po Saint-Germain-en-Laye, where he teaches international relations, European Union policy and political economy. He previously taught these subjects at \u00c9cole Polytechnique, at Sciences Po, at Sciences Po Lille and at the Free University of Berlin.<br \/>\nHe has been published in, among others, <i>\u00c9tudes internationales <\/i>[International Studies], <i>European Security<\/i>, <i>Les Champs de Mars<\/i> and <i>Politique europ\u00e9enne [European Policy]<\/i>.
