Do they get better results? \u00a0Do their attitudes change? Overall \u2013 including outside of school \u2013 are their interests affected? These are the questions addressed in a research project led by the OSC and Paris National Opera.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>A research project led by the OSC and Paris National Opera<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">In July 2015, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencespo.fr\/osc\/en\">Observatory for social change (OSC)<\/a> and Paris National Opera established a partnership aiming to assess an artistic and cultural initiative called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.operadeparis.fr\/academie\/education-artistique\/dix-mois-decole-et-dopera\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i>Dix mois d\u2019Ecole et d\u2019Op\u00e9ra<\/i><\/a> (Ten Months of School and Opera) that has been in place for 25 years in 33 establishments belonging to the priority education network of the academies of Paris, Cr\u00e9teil and Versailles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Created in 1991, <i>Dix mois d\u2019Ecole et d\u2019Op\u00e9ra<\/i> offers a series of activities to primary and secondary school classes over two consecutive years: regular meetings with Opera professionals, invitations to opera and ballet rehearsals and performances, workshops allowing children to engage in artistic practice \u2013 dance, song, music, theater, visual arts \u2013 for three hours a week.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The research project seeks to assess the impact of this initiative on several levels:<br \/>\n&#8211; education per se: motivation, results, direction\u2026<br \/>\n&#8211; less academic aspects: behavior, tastes, interests\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">These evaluations draw on a range of both quantitative and qualitative methods. In terms of academic results, the research is based on a partnership with the Ministry of Education\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.education.gouv.fr\/cid1180\/direction-de-l-evaluation-de-la-prospective-et-de-la-performance.html\">Direction de l&#8217;\u00e9valuation, de la prospective et de la performance<\/a> (DEPP \u2013 Directorate of evaluation, forecasting and performance), enabling a statistical analysis of the results of the middle-school Brevet for students from the fifty classes that went through this program between 2003 and 2013.
