Pascal Lamy addresses inaugural class
The new School of Public Affairs welcomed its inaugural class of students on August 31st. Guest speaker Pascal Lamy, the former General-Director of the World Trade Organization and a Sciences Po alumnus, addressed the school’s 540 students who hail from over 40 different countries.
In his address, Pascal Lamy tackled the complex notion of common good and discussed the multitude of actors working to define and preserve the common good. Mr. Lamy discussed his professional experience to illustrate how radically the practice of public affairs has changed over time, largely due to globalization, but also because the actors of the public good, public affairs, general interest, and common good, are infinitely more numerous, diversified, and multilocalised than they were in the past. Mr. Lamy also highlighted the numerous challenges facing public affairs professionals today, whether ethical, orginasational, technological or political.
The School of Public Affairs at Sciences Po aims to prepare a global community of professionals to respond to these challenges and to reinvent public affairs to shape the world of tomorrow.
