Thomas, shares with us his experience at the Master in European Affairs in apprenticeship.

"I am Thomas. I just completed my master’s degree in European Affairs at Sciences Po. While I already had an engineering degree, I chose to compliment it with Sciences Po in order to learn more about the world, politics, and Europe.

I could enter the Master thanks to a special agreement between my school and Sciences Po: I did not have to do the written exam. And the oral exam went well, I can say.

At first, my goal was to work in the European institutions. But it changed during my Master’s degree. And today I am planning to go back to scientific fields.

I really enjoyed studying in a multilingual and multicultural context. The master allowed me to meet a lot of different people, coming from all around the world. As for academics, courses were very diverse, sometimes technical, sometimes not, and I found exactly what I was looking for during those 2 years. It was sometimes hard work, but still, I found time to prepare for the European civil servant competitive exams, be part of the Christian community of Sciences Po, and be the treasurer of the Association of the Master.

I spent the summer between the two years travelling in Asia, and I did 3 weeks of preparation for the French Army would-be Officers. I did not have to complete an internship during the summer because I chose to do an apprenticeship for my second year of Master.

This last year was not an easy one. I had to attend classes for 2 or 3 days a week in Sciences Po, while working at EDF (French electricity producer) the rest of the week. It was sometimes intense, and I had to give up the student life at Sciences Po.

But I have to say it was worth it. And I am very glad to graduate from this master, which made me discover the European Union’s careers, gave me a more precise approach of European issues, and last but not least, gave me more time to think about what I want to do with my life.."
