Five podcasts to listen to while social-distancing

In 2020, PRESAGE — Sciences Po's Gender Studies Programme — celebrates its 10 years of existence. An exceptional Lecture Series was scheduled for Spring Semester 2020 to mark this occasion. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, several talks were cancelled and postponed.

Since its creation in 2010, Sciences Po’s Gender Studies Programme records the talks given by guest researchers. Here are five podcasts to listen to while you are social-distancing.

Alaya, Ariel, Julie and May are Undergraduate Students at Sciences Po, Le Havre campus. In 2019, they launched s(H)e: a docuseries looking into humanity through the lenses of feminism. They frequently publish videos covering a wide variety of topics, like parenting while studying, practising Islam, or discussing premenstrual syndrome. They tell us about their project.

La Cité du genre

La Cité du Genre est une initiative interdisciplinaire de recherche et de formation en études de genre portée par l'Université de Paris. Elle bénéficie du soutien de l’Alliance, notamment de Sciences Po et de Université Sorbonne Paris Nord qui en sont membres fondateurs depuis 2015. L’Inserm et le CNRS sont représentés au Conseil scientifique et pédagogique depuis 2015, l’Inalco le rejoint en 2020.

Countries’ Covid-19 responses could debunk some myths around the 'abortion pill'

With health-care facilities around the world overburdened by the Covid-19 pandemic, a number of countries have revised their abortion regulations. On March 27, Ireland authorised remote consultations for medical abortion through telemedicine. Self-administration of medical abortion pills has also been approved in England and now women are allowed to take medical abortion pills at their homes.

Nazand Begikhani, Senior Research Fellow at the University of Bristol, is visiting Professor at Sciences Po’s Centre for International Studies (CERI) for Spring semester 2020. She has been awarded the Vincent Wright Chair that promotes academic exchanges between France and Britain. She tells us about her role as a British researcher of Kurdish origin working on gender-based violence and shares her experiences as a poetess and human-rights advocate.

During the 2019-2020 academic year, five Master’s students took part in a team project: they conducted a research-action project for and with the NGO Equipop. Carolin, Chloé, Hannah, Inaïssa and Sofietou will draw up an in-depth report on the collective actions of young feminists in French-speaking West Africa. In January, they interviewed feminist activists in Abidjan, Ivory Coast and Dakar, Senegal.
