Blue like an Orange Sustainable CapitalIn 2015, the World Bank published “From Billions to Trillions”, under the leadership of Bertrand Badré, highlighting the need to move forward from traditional “development finance” and to “catalyze, mobilize and crowd in both public and private sources of funds for development”. Ten years later, the investments promised by the UN Sustainable Development Goals have failed to materialize, with investments increasing only slightly in some critical sectors such as Agrifood systems or Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, or even decreasing in infrastructure, according to the latest UNCTAD publications.
On the other hand, several players from the private sector have emerged since then, adopting a “no trade-off” principle aiming to achieve both impact and financial performance, and whose track-records offer insightful learnings, although still facing several challenges.
Amid new geopolitical conflicts and economic pressures, climate action is threatened to become deprioritized behind security risks and economic needs, reinforcing the need for holistic approaches to ensure resilience.
This roundtable will explore achievements and challenges in filling the existing funding gap for climate investments in emerging markets while integrating Just Transition considerations and increasing Resilience.
Speakers will share insights on what successful investments look like today and discuss how to maintain momentum despite the current geopolitical context.
