LIEPP is part of the 7th edition of the "Printemps de l'Economie"

The main subject of this new edition is the employment, a essential component of our lives in society. Do digital transitions play a decisive role in generating or not new jobs? Artificial intelligence: what is the place for work? What are the main perspectives for "green" jobs in a climate environment crisis? Does taxation matter too much on work?  How to finance pensions? Are we really trying everything to fight against unemployment?

These questions and many more will be analysed during this event. Le Printemps de l'Economie is also the opportunity to present the findings of research conducted in this area by our laboratory (LIEPP).

Two sessions are presented by LIEPP:

Tuesday March 19th, 10h30 - 11h30 (location: Bourse du Travail)

« Digitalisation de l’économie et polarisation du marché du travail »

Speakers: Bruno Palier (CNRS, CEE et LIEPP), Camille Peugny (Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines) et Gregory Verdugo (Université Evry Val-d ’Essonne).

This session focuses on the digitization of the economy and the polarization of the labor market. Digitization can be understood as an industrial revolution, a series of technological innovations associated with new practices and new business models. Like any industrial revolution, it goes through a phase of destruction of the existing, before profoundly transforming the world of employment, and developing new sectors of activity and new jobs. The peculiarity of this phase stems from the fact that certains jobs are mainly removed in the industry (in terms of skills or wages) while it allows the creation of high-paying jobs on the one hand (in high tech, high value-added services), and low wages and precarious work (especially in interpersonal services).

Thursday March 21st, 14h00 - 15h15 (location: Mairie du 3ème arrondissement)

« De l’efficacité des politiques d’emploi ? »

Speakers: Clément Carbonnier (Université de Cergy-Pontoise, THEMA, Conseil d’analyse économique et LIEPP), Morgane Laouénan (CNRS, LIEPP), Andreana Khristova (LIEPP) et Bruno Palier (CNRS, CEE et LIEPP).

This session aims to question the effectiveness of employment policies based on research conducted by LIEPP. For several decades, France has actively supported jobs through tax cuts and exemptions from employers' social security contributions. The devices deployed under the policies to promote the services to the person will be analized and in the framework of the tax credit competitiveness employment aiming at improving the competitiveness of the companies. The purpose is to present LIEPP's conclusions about the effectiveness of these policies in creating jobs, and their anti-redistributive effects. It will also examine mechanisms to combat discrimination in hiring and inequalities in access to employment. Finally, an analysis of policies aimed at "activating" the unemployed by encouraging job recovery, training or business creation will be presented.

Thursday March 21st, 17h30-18h45 (location: Amphithéâtre Emile Boutmy, Sciences Po)

« Choisir son temps de travail? »

Speakers: Pierre Cahuc (professor of Economy Sciences Po, director of "Chaire de sécurisation des parcours professionnels, IZA research fellow), Bruno Palier (CNRS, CEE et LIEPP) and Catherine Pinchaut (National Secretary of Cfdt).

After two centuries of reduction of the weekly working time, is it possible to think that this types of reforms can continue? In order to rebuilt an inclusive society, it is necessary to share a dynamic and negotiated working time and to better articulate our individual and and personal time with ours families?
