    Energy and mobile phone : the Pay-as-you-go solar energy in Africa

    Over 640 million Africans have no access to energy in 2018, corresponding to an electricity access rate for African countries just over 40 percent, which is the lowest in the world. In sub-Saharan Africa (excluding South Africa), consumption of energy per capita is around 180 kWh, compared to 13000 kWh per capita in the United States and 6500 kWh in the European Union. At the same time, sub-Saharan Africa is rich in energy resources with oil and gas reserves, and renewable energies capacities, but it is starved of electricity with a power sector underdeveloped.
