Profile: Jeanne Varaldi, alumna

A 2018 GRADUATE OF THE MASTER'S DEGREE IN REGIONAL AND URBAN STRATEGY, JEANNE VARALDI IS NOW BOTH A SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT CONSULTANT WITH CABINET UTOPIES AND A VISUAL ARTIST. PROFILE.

Interview conducted by Sciences Po Careers.

What does your role entail as a consultant at Cabinet Utopies?

My consulting activities at Utopies involve working with actors in the urban and real estate sectors: developers, builders and architects. We intervene on strategic missions, such as defining a fundamental purpose, i.e. what is the economic and social vocation of a company, and on more operational missions: formulating a CSR strategy, an action plan and determining associated monitoring indicators.

What are your activities as a visual artist?

A few years ago, I developed an activity as an artist in parallel with my consulting work because I wanted to have a more sensitive, experimental approach, and also a research dimension in the way I study the city. I create installations and murals from construction materials and the aesthetic universe of the building site with the desire to decompartmentalise the urban fabric and invite everyone to look, to observe urban transformations... in short to better participate.

Why have two different professional activities?

I think that having a dual activity is really in line with what we are taught at Sciences Po. This echoes the multidisciplinary nature of the learning and the entrepreneurial culture promoted at Sciences Po. And finally, on a daily basis, the fact that I am both a consultant and an artist is enriching and provides me with balance.
