Doctor in Political Theory, Hugo El Kholi defended his thesis on “Teleological constructivism & global justice” in 2014. His advisors were Sciences Po professor Astrid von Busekist and Durham University professor Thom Brooks.
Before joining the philosophy department at Sun Yat-sen University (Zhuhai) as a researcher, Hugo El Kholi received doctoral fellowships from Oxford and Princeton universities, as well as a post-doctoral fellowship to work with Astrid von Busekist on the MIME (Mobility and Inclusion in Multilingual Europe) project. He has taught philosophy, politics, international relations and history in several institutions of higher education, including Sciences Po and the University of Kurdistan. His research currently focuses on global justice theories, moral and political constructivism, Enlightenment philosophy and contemporary Chinese political thought.
Hugo El Kholi also served as editor of the first issue in English of the journal Raisons politiques (n°51), sur le theme "Global Justice and Practice-Dependence".
