Majeure “Public Policy”

Launched in September 2020, the new majeure “Public Policy” within the Master in Political Science at Sciences Po offers specialized research training on policy analysis and the way responses to the major challengesof contemporary government have been constructed: whether it be the ecological transition, economic crises, the regulation of financialized or digital capitalism, or the fight against discrimination, extreme poverty or social inequality.

Students in this majeure will follow a concentration of courses dedicated to the processes of designing and implementing public policies, to the issues at stake and to the rich academic debates that they give rise to: agenda-building; the role of public administrations; the influence of political parties, interest groups and social movements; multi-level democratic governance; the political economy of regulation; institutional change; evaluation of public policies; the effects of public policies on citizens and their relationship to the state, etc.

They will also benefit from training in methods of policy analysis, both qualitative and quantitative. This majeure is aimed more particularly at students who are aiming for academic careers (research and teaching), but also at those who are considering careers as experts or policy analysts in international and national, public or private, organizations, or who plan to apply to general competitive examinations to enter the civil service (national, local, international and European). Amongst students from the first graduating cohort, several are currently pursuing academic careers with funded PhD places in France (at Sciences Po) and in a range of leading international universities (in the US, the UK and Continental Europe).
