'No' (2012)

Law and Cinema Club

affiche du film No

Time flies when you’re having law and cinema. For the last screening of this academic year, we at last travel to Latin America. In 1988, the people of Chile were presented with a unique opportunity to take control over the future of their country. Vote ‘Yes’ for eight more years of Pinochet’s dictatorship, vote ‘No’ for democratic elections. What went on behind the scenes of the two campaigns is brilliantly featured in Pablo Larraín’s

‘No’ (2012)

Starring Gael García Bernal in the lead role, the film depicts the No campaign’s unorthodox strategy to use colourful, positive, and uplifting images and slogans to counter Pinochet’s violent regime. For times in which political campaigns are constantly challenged by new media, misinformation and fake news, ‘No’ provides ample food for thought.
