Law and Cinema Club
Séminaire des doctorants
For the second instalment of the Law and Cinema Club, we leave the familiar shores of Hollywood and travel to the Middle East to find Ziad Doueiri’s much praised
The Insult (2017)
The film – Lebanon’s first ever Oscar nomination – is set in modern day Beirut and tells the story of an ordinary dispute between two men (a Lebanese national and a Palestinian refugee) that ends up in court. As the case receives growing media attention, it provokes social unrest and violence in divided Lebanon. While the story develops under unique circumstances, it provides important insights for the debate on the current gilets jaunes demonstrations and nature of civil protest.
We therefore invite all PhDs and faculty to join us in watching (in Arabic with English subtitles) and discussing The Insult on Thursday 24 January - 17:30.
