Professor Emeritus at the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris (SciencesPo), Paris and Professor at LUISS Guido Carli University, Rome, Jean-Paul Fitoussi is also a member of the Centre for Capitalism and Society at Columbia University.
After having chaired with Joseph Stiglitz and Amartya Sen the Commission for Economic performances and social Progress 2007-2009, he has been, since January 2013, Co-Chair with Joseph Stiglitz and Martine Durand of the High Level Expert Group on the measurement of Economic Performances and Social Progress.
From 1990 to 1993, he contributed to the creation and the development of the EBRD. From 1995 to 2014, he was a member of the Economic Commission of the Nation. From 1997 to 2012, he was a member of the Council of Economic Advisers of the Prime Minister (CAE). From 1990 to 2010 he was President of OFCE, the economic research centre of Sciences-Po.
He has published a number of articles in international scientific journals and numerous books and essays on related subjects. Among his last books are: Mismeasuring our lives, with Joseph Stiglitz and Amartya Sen, the New Press, 2010; After the Crisis, the Way Ahead, with Edmund S. Dr. Fitoussi has contributed regularly to French and foreign newspapers.
From 2000 to 2009 he has been an expert at the European Parliament, Commission of Monetary and Economic Affairs. He was also a member of the UN Commission on the Reform of the International Monetary and Financial System and Coordinator of the Commission on the Measurement of Economic Performance and Social Progress (2008-2009).
He has received together with Joseph Stiglitz and Amartya Sen the 2016 Medal of the Society for Progress for the book “Mismeasuring our Lives”, and the Prize of the French Economic Association for his book, Le Théorème du lampadaire. He received the International Prize Pico Della Mirandola for his work (2017).
Dr Fitoussi was awarded for his PhD the Prize of the Association Française de Sciences Economiques, and the Rossi Prize of the Académie des Sciences Morales et Politiques. He has received distinctions, including Honorary Dean of the Faculty of Economics of Strasbourg, Doctor Honoris Causa of the universities of Buenos Aires and Tres de Febrero, Professor Onorario of the University of Trento.
He is Officier de l’Ordre National du Mérite and Officier de la legion d’honneur in his own nation, and Grand Officier de l’ordre de l’Infant Henri in Portugal. He is also Commandatore al merito della Republica Italiana.
