Clémence LOBUT is a PhD Candidate in Economics at Sciences Po working on a thesis entitled Les effets de l'utilisation du numérique sur les apprentissages des élèves, under the supervision of Denis FOUGÈRE. She is also a chargée d'études at the French Ministry of Education and Youth.
Her research is focused on the economics of education and the evaluation of public policies.

Nicholas PAPAGEORGE is the Broadus Mitchell Associate Professor of Economics at Johns Hopkins University (JHU). He is also the Associate Director of the Poverty and Inequality Research Lab at JHU since 2021. His a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), a Research Fellow at IZA and an Associate at the Hopkins Population Center. Among his editorial duties, he is Associate Editor of Quantitative Economics and Co-Editor of Research in Economics.
His research interests are in Health, Education, Labour, Innovation, Beliefs, Structural Modelling and Qualitative Data Analysis. His work has received numerous research grants.

Benjamin GOLUB is Associate Professor of Economics and of Computer Science at Northwestern University since 2020. Prior to joining Northwestern, he taught at Harvard.
Benjamin Golub’s research in economic theory focuses on social and economic networks and related topics. He has received the Calvó-Armengol International Prize, a National Science Foundation CAREER grant in 2019 and the 2012 Aliprantis Prize, with Matt Elliott, for an outstanding paper by a young economic theorist.

Sevgi YUKSEL is Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of California Santa Barbara since 2015. She was Visiting Faculty at Princeton in 2018.

J.-P. LANDAU on Europe's moral obligation to boycott Russian energy

Jean-Pierre LANDAU, Associate Faculty member of the Department and founding Dean of Sciences Po’s School of Public Affairs, signed an important opinion piece in the Project Syndicate this week along with Markus Brunnermeier (Professor of Economics and Director of the Bendheim Center for Finance, Princeton), and Harold James (Professor of History and International Affairs at Princeton), on Europe's Moral Obligation to Boycott Russian Energy.
“The single most effective way to force the Kremlin to reverse course is to absorb the costs of cutting off the Russian war machine.”
They concede of course, that there will be high, painful costs for Europe to renounce to its oil and gas imports from Russia. Ultimately it will require reducing European energy consumption. Yet for years now, European leaders “have… been worried about the long-term costs of carbon energy and its implications for the planet... we should make some sacrifices today in order to make life better for subsequent generations. But now, Russia has made this logic even simpler."
Not only that, but it is the right, the moral thing to do, they argue. It is important that Europe “back up its lofty rhetoric with action, and to show that Europeans are not hypocrites.” For years the claim has been that “morality and the promotion of shared values… (that) Europe’s soft power is more effective than the hard power of the United States.”
The war in Ukraine is the opportunity to prove it.
