Michele FIORETTI joined the Department in 2019 as Assistant Professor.
His research interests include empirical industrial organisation, behavioural economics, and applied microeconomics. His work focuses on understanding firms' strategies with applications on social impact firms and sectors with a social dimension such as the health and the energy sectors. His research and scholarship have already received a number of awards and fellowships and notably the Award for the Best Applied Economics Paper by a Young Researcher at the 2018 Econometric Society Summer European Meeting (EEA-ESEM Cologne).

Yael HOCHBERG is the Ralph S. O’Connor Professor of Entrepreneurship at Rice University, the Head of the Entrepreneurship Initiative at Rice, and the Academic Director of the Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship. She is also a Research Affiliate at the MIT Sloan School of Management and a Research Associate at National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). Among her editorial duties, she is an Associate Editor at the Journal of Banking and Finance and the Journal of Empirical Finance, and previously served as an Associate Editor at the Review of Finance.
Her research interests are focused on entrepreneurship, innovation, and the financing of entrepreneurial activity, in particular on the venture capital industry, accelerators, networks and corporate governance and compensation policies. Her research has been published in top tier journals, including Science Magazine, the Journal of Finance, the Review of Financial Studies, the Journal of Accounting Research, and the Journal of Financial Economics, and has been presented at numerous universities and governmental bodies around the world.

Marleen MARRA is Assistant Professor of Economics at the Department since 2019. Prior to her academic career, she worked at the research departments of the World Bank and the European Commission.
Her research focuses on the structural analysis of industries and bidding markets, with the aim to inform public policy. She combines game theory and econometric models to analyse strategic choices of firms and individuals. She is particularly interested in questions related to entry in auctions, auction platforms, and transport settings.

RIEF Network Conference

The Department will be hosting the Research in International Economics and Finance (RIEF) Network's 21st Annual Doctoral Meetings.
The RIEF Network was created in 2004 in order to strengthen scientific cooperation and contacts between European research centres working on international economics. Every year it organises a doctoral meeting which gives selected PhD candidates or young doctors (on the job market) the opportunity to have their papers discussed by senior researchers in the field.
A prize of 500 euros is awarded to the best paper presented.
