Dr. Camille Escudé-Joffres is a Temporary Teaching Researcher Assistant (ATER) in the Department of Political Science at Sciences Po since 2020. She defended her PhD thesis in Political Science and International Relations at Sciences Po, in September 2020. Prior to that, she graduated in Political Science and International Relations from Sciences Po, and in Geography from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. She is an associate researcher at CERI, Sciences Po and Conseil Québécois d’Etudes Géopolitique (Laval University). She holds the “Agrégation” in Geography (Highest Competitive Examination -Teaching Degree in Geography).
Her research in international relations and geopolitics examines the Arctic regional governance challenged in a context of global interest for the Arctic region. In her PhD, she shows that the regionalisation process stems from the Arctic state’s desire with a political objective of excluding certain actors (Indigenous People, non-Arctic states, NGOs), gradually pushed out of decision-making bodies. In return, the latter widen the limits of the institutional region through new forms of political governance (informal forums, club diplomacy). During her PhD, she did field work in five of the eight Arctic countries, conducting interviews with diplomats, but also Indigenous People and NGO representatives, aiming to evaluate their role in Arctic regional governance.
She is teaching undergraduate and graduate students especially in International Relations and Political Science in Sciences Po and Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. In 2020-2021 she will teach “Thinking IR globally” and “Introduction to Political Science”, as well as mentoring students preparing for the “Agregation”. Besides her position within the Sciences Po research community, she is also vice-director of the “Arctic and Nordic Countries Group” within the Group for European Geopolitical studies.
