Doctoral Seminar on China

Françoise Mengin and Jean Louis Rocca

The objective of this seminar is to provide a place for debate and analysis on contemporary China and to disseminate and discuss, in a constructive manner, PhD students’ research work. Two types of seminars are organized: a presentation by a PhD student of his work in progress (research project, one or several chapters of the PhD); feedback on doctoral careers that can help students in elaborating their problematic/hypothesis or pursue their research work. The seminar is open to PhD students from Sciences Po and elsewhere, as well as young doctors working on China, but also to students whose subject can contribute to or learn from the discussions on the Chinese field.

This seminar seeks to decompartmentalize studies on China by crossing area studies with more disciplinary approaches. The general methodology that is privileged in the seminar is a comparative historical sociology of the political, in order to seize the chinese worlds trajectories in their complexity without, however, presuming that there is a “chinese alterity”.

The seminar takes place at CERI, 56 rue Jacob, 75006 Paris.
