Seminar Cities are back in town "Big data, digital platforms and re-composition of urban governance in the digital era. The case of the Waze App."
Wednesday 11 April 2018, 5 - 7 pm, Sciences Po, Room Jean Monnet, 56 rue Jacob, 75006 Paris
This presentation focuses on big data and digital platforms to better understand how they disturb public policies and push for their transformation. Their capacity of collecting and analyzing digital traces spawns a need for policy reforms. Analyzing the case of the Waze company, this research examines how this routing service influences local road traffic policies. The communication questions the different regulatory mechanisms of data that are implemented to tackle this issue. It also illustrates the contribution of a sociology of data to understand and theorize the re-composition of the state in the digital era.
