Elena Escalante-Block defended her thesis entitled "The role of actors in the legitimation or delegitimation of MLG structures: A claims-making analysis of the politicisation and depoliticisation of EU state aid policy" on Thursday, the 11th of March 2021.

She is a Marie Sklodowska-Curie fellow and is affiliated with the PLATO project, a European training network (H2020-MSCA-ITN) with 15 PhD candidates who investigate the legitimacy of the EU’s responses to the financial crisis.

Escalante-Block's PhD project focuses on analysing whether the (de)politicisation of supranational policies may affect the legitimacy of the EU and the nation-state.

Previously, Escalante-Block worked for two years as a Research Assistant at the Electoral Integrity Project in Sydney. The project, which is based at Harvard University and the University of Sydney, studies issues associated with electoral integrity, electoral conditions and malpractices worldwide. She also holds a Master of Research from Macquarie University and a Master of International Relations from the University of Sydney.
