Photot de Athanassios GouglasThanassis is a visiting doctoral fellow at the CEE, Sciences Po, Paris. He is normally affiliated with the KU Leuven Public Governance Institute in Belgium, where he works on a doctoral research project on the determinants of parliamentary turnover in Western Europe. This is a four year research project funded by the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO). The project will map and explain the rate of membership change in the period 1945-2014, both at election time and during the legislative term, in eight selected lower houses in West-European consolidated democracies.

In the period 2004-2012, as a civil servant and political & policy adviser, Thanassis worked closely with policy makers in Greece, the EU and EU member states on numerous bilateral cooperation projects. In the period 2009-2012 he was Head of Policy in the Ministerial Cabinets of the Minister of Citizen Protection & the Minister of Development, Competitiveness and Shipping.

Research interests

Parliamentary/legislative turnover, political elites, comparative politics, comparative public policy, political advisers, ministerial advisers, ministerial cabinets, policy advice.
