 Marta Tonetta is a PhD candidate in Sociology and Methodology of Social Research at the Network for the Advancement of Social and Political Studies (NASP), both at the University of Milan La Statale and the University of Turin, Italy.

Her dissertation chronicles the new processes of rent-seeking of Italian urban middle-class individuals and households enabled by short-term rentals’ digital platforms (e.g. Airbnb).

Research interests

Platform capitalism; short-term rentals; middle classes; urban studies; housing; social stratification and inequalities.

Visiting projects and objectives

Title of her project: Squeezing Homes, Extracting Stability? Urban Middle-classes and Short-term rentals in Time of Crisis : a Perspective on Contemporary Italy.

During her stay at the CEE, Marta Tonetta  also deepens the role Italian middle-classes are playing (through associationism or grassroots movements) in the new policy and regulation arena of short-term rentals.
