Francesca Feo is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Political and Social Science at Scuola Normale Superiore (SNS), in Florence. In her research, she focuses on the experience of populist parties in national parliaments in Italy and Spain, exploring their parliamentary behaviour, the processes of parliamentary socialization and their fulfilment of representation mandate.

She has studied international relations and political science at the University of Pisa (BA) and the University of Bologna (MA). In 2015 she spent one semester at Johns Hopkins SAIS, and 2 months at the University of Leiden. In 2019, she did her fieldwork in Spain and visited at the University of Barcelona. Since 2016, she works as a consultant for the International Institute on Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) for the Money in Politics global project. She is promoter, together with other colleagues from SNS and EUI, of the Florence Intersectionality and Gender Working Group.

Research interests

Francesca Feo research interests include political representation and populism, gender representation, party organization and party finance. For her research, she privileges qualitative methods.

Research project pursued at the CEE 

Francesca Feo will be writing a first draft of her PhD thesis once in Paris, focussing on the empirical analysis. She will write a conference paper on the “geometry of representation” performed by the Italian 5 Star Movement.
