Alina Thiemann

Post-doctoral researcher


Alina Thiemann holds a Ph.D. in media and communication from Temple University in Philadelphia and an M.A. in media studies from the New School in New York, where she was a Fulbright scholar. Her research interests include memory and identity, migration, human rights, and deliberative democracy.

She joined the Centre for European Studies and Comparative Politics in April 2019, as the Network Coordinator of the COST Action CA16111 ETHMIGSURVEYDATA. Currently, she is a postdoctoral researcher within the ESRC project “Who is leading the change? Innovation and influence in the epistemic community for macroprudential regulation: between central banks, IMF and academia.”

Since 2018, she has been teaching classes at the Paris School of International Affairs, Sciences Po School of Management and Innovation, and Sciences Po Saint Germain en Laye on topics such as communication for development; migration and human rights; innovation; and ethics in communication.

Research interests

Transitional justice, social memory, deliberative democracy, migration and human rights.
