Yingzhi Zhu, chinese student
It’s well known all over the word.
Founded in 1871, Sciences Po is France’s leading university for social sciences. Our roots are French, but today we’are opened to the world. The education we offer focuses on six areas : political science, economics, law, history, sociology and international relations. We are a selective university, and we set high standards. But we also believe in the importance of diversity, of having students of faculty from around the world, from all background and cultures.
The undergraduate programme
Undergraduates spend three years at Sciences Po, two years in France, followed by a year studying abroad in one of our 350 partner universities. The two years at Sciences Po takes place either at the Paris campus, in Saint-Germain des Prés, close to the Seine and not far from the Eiffel Tower, or one of the six other regional campuses. The Euro-American campus is at Reims. The city of Menton hosts the Middle East and Mediterranean campus, the Europe Latin-America campus is in Poitiers, the Euro-Franco-German campus is located in Nancy, the Central and Eastern Europe campus is in Dijon, and last but not least, the Europe-Asia campus is in Le Havre. Sciences Po has also created a Europe-Africa programme at his Paris campus.
After spending two years at Le Havre, Patrick studies in Shanghai for his third year abroad.
I’m American, I chose Sciences Po because I am interested in politics and economics and combine work in Le Havre to learn Chinese as well so that I can look at this with an Asian perspective as well as with a business view and a political view.
In return for sending students abroad for their third year, we are please to welcome about 1.200 exchange students in Sciences Po in Paris or in one of our regional campuses every year. They come to us for one semester or a full year. Many of our classes are in French, but it is possible to study only in English.
The graduate programme
Upon completion of the undergraduate programme, Sciences Po offers a range of two years masters qualification. Certain master’s programmes are double degrees : with Columbia, MGIMO in Russia, Fudan in China, St. Gallen in Switzerland. Students spend one year of that master at Sciences Po, and the other at the partner university.
Stephan Nunner, Dual degree Sciences Po – St Gallen
On the one hand, Sciences Po has a more practical approach, while St Gallen has a more theoretical approach, and I think that these two parts are very important in a professional career.
Sciences Po also offers PhD programmes. The institution verts 37% of its projects to research.
Sciences Po students study in truly excepcional conditions, and in particular have access to one of Europe’s famous social sciences libraries.
Simiso Velempini, dual degree Sciences Po – LSE
Firstly, I mean Sciences Po has a great reputation both in France and across the world. And what initially drew me here was the quality of the teachers and the lecturers at the university. There’s a great mix of practionners and true academics. So you really have a holistic experience in terms of your academic programme here. And obviously secondly would be the conferences and the amazing people that the university is able to atract. Leading personalities have come to here, and there are so many conferences on offer that you are really spoiled for choice about which to choose and when to go.
Conferences views of Bob Woodwzard, Kofi Annan, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, George Soros.
That was the second reason. The third one is obviously the great cultural life that is encouraged in the university and we have a really great sports network. So if you choose to come here, you have the added advantage of having a really vibrant cultural life, as well as a sporting life.
