All of the Elective Courses of the School of Public Affairs are open to you. You may choose courses taught in French or English. A C1 level in the language of instruction is recommended.

In order to obtain your Sciences Po diploma you must validate an English level that is at least equivalent to C1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

If you have not yet achieved level C1 in English, registering for an in-person or e-learning English language course is highly recommended.

  • one Optional Course to be chosen among the Policy Lab offering or a Complementary Course for French civil service exam preparation.
  • a second Living Language Course.

Policy Lab's optional seminars specifically address initiatives such as the Incubator of Public Policy and Civic Tech. They are incorporated in the "public innovator track" and offer seminars combining design-thinking, digital and social science. They help students to incubate their future innovative project.

For your information, the following courses are offered during Semesters 1, 2 and 3: Culture générale and Questions internationales.

We also remind you that any registration to an optional course implies commitment for the entire semester.

Internship 30 Students have the opportunity to do an internship during the last semester of their Master.
This internship must fulfill some requirements : 14 consecutive weeks minimum, full-time, same host organization during the whole internship. In addition to the online registration, you have to obtain your internship agreement by declaring it in your online space. The internship is validated when the Assessment form is filled out, signed and stamped by the host organization at the end of the internship and sent to the Careers Service.

Exchange programme 30 Students have the opportunity to spend a semester in one of our partner institutions around the world.
Only students who have applied in January 2017 to go abroad and who have been accepted to these programmes may spend the spring semester 2017-2018 in a partner institution, in the framework of the semester 4.
Policy Lab - Public Policy Incubator 30 Students have the opportunity to develop their own project to complete the challenges proposed together with our public and private partners.
Only selected students have access to this programme.
Master thesis 30 Students have the opportunity to write a Master thesis under the supervision of a Sciences Po teacher.
The defence of this work of 50 pages takes place in May and replaces the "Grand Oral".
If you want to do a Master thesis, you must contact before your online registration the academic advisor in charge of your Policy Stream in order to get his/her approval.
Individual project 30 Students have the opportunity to work on an individual project during the last semester of their Master.
The individual project must be consistent with the academic project of the School of Public Affairs and with your professionnal project. Reminder : the registration to the Prepaconcours can't be validated as an individual project.
If you want to register for these projects, you must contact before your online registration the academic advisor in charge of your Policy Stream in order to get his/her approval.
