School choice and hierarchies of reputation: parental choice in cities in Finland and Chile.

Parental choice of lower secondary schools, the differing reputations of schools and their classes and the reputational hierarchies constructed in the parental social networks in metropolitan areas of Helsinki (city of Espoo) and Santiago will be discussed. A special focus in the presentation is given to the choice of the upper-class parents conducting a selective and distinctive school choice and to the required forms of capital in this process.
