Banque de France/Sciences Po Research Seminar - November 18th

The next Banque de France/Sciences Po Research Seminar "Banks and the Financial System: what regulation?" will host Guillaume PLANTIN (Sciences Po and member of the CAE) on the theme:

An Economic Analysis of Accounting Standards

The Seminar will also host Patrick DE CAMBOURG (Chairman of the ANC, Accounting Norms Authority) who will provide a regulator’s view.

Date: Wednesday, November 18th - 17:00 to 19:00

Location: Sciences Po, Department of Economics, 28, rue des Saints Pères, 75007 Paris - Amphi CAQUOT

Banque de France / Sciences Po Research Seminars discuss issues on banking, financial systems and financial regulation. The objective is to confront the approaches and ideas of academics and practitioners. Wednesday, 17:00 - 19:00, once a month.

Seminars are organized by Vivien Levy-Garboua (BNP Paribas), Robert Ophèle (Banque de France) and Guillaume Plantin (Professor of Sciences Po).

Sergei GURIEV is named Chief Economist at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)

Professor Sergei GURIEV will join the EBRD for a 2-year stint in 2016, once he has fulfilled his academic commitments of the year. His many research interests include contract theory, corporate governance, political economics and labor mobility.

He is particulary well known for his work in transition economics which undoubtedly inspired the EBRD in their choice. Sir Suma Chakrabarti, EBRD president, said of the 44-year-old economist that he has a “huge amount of experience and expertise” and “deep knowledge of the countries where we operate” (link to EBRD "News").

Considered to be one of Russia's brightest economists, and former Rector of the prestigious New Economic School in Moscow (2004-13), Professor Guriev joined Sciences Po's Department of Economics in 2013.

This exciting news was also reported by the Financial Times (link to FT.com "sign up" via SciencesPo's group subscription).

Elise HUILLERY to publish in The World Bank Economic Review

Elise HUILLERY (Assistant Professor of the Department) has co-authored an article with Elizabeth BEADSLEY - "Willing but Unable? Short-Term Experimental Evidence on Parent Empowerment and School Quality".

The article will appear in a forthcoming issue of The World Bank Economic Review which seeks to « publish and disseminate innovative theoretical and empirical research that identifies, analyzes, measures, and evaluates the macro and micro-economic forces that promote or impede economic development… »

The AEA highlighed Nicolas COEURDACIER and Stéphane GUIBAUD's research this past month

The September issue of Econ News announced the forthcoming publication of an article in the prestigious American Economic Review by the Department's Nicolas COEURDACIER and Stéphane GUIBAUD and co-author Keyu JIN (LSE).

Their work entitled Credit Constraints and Growth in a Global Economy (link to PDF) was one of seven articles profiled in the AEA's online "Research Highlights" in October. In particular, the AEA's Tim Hyde underscored their important contribution to "a puzzling macroeconomic development: the steady decline in global interest rates."

Johannes BOEHM (Assistant Professor of the Department) authored a paper that appear in the Department's Sciences Po Economics DP Series -  The Impact of Contract Enforcement Costs on Outsourcing and Aggregate Productivity (link to PDF).

The goal of the Sciences Po Economics Discussion Paper Series is to make available online as early as possible current research work by members of the Department to fellow economists, scholars and institutions all over the world.
