In September 2011, Sciences Po Paris campus will inaugurate a new Euro-African undergraduate programme for forty students admitted under both French (Cep/Exam/MTB) and international procedures.
The programme will include core courses taught on all the campuses as well as langue and social science classes focusing on the African continent designed to lead students to an understanding of Africa’s diversity, its openness to the world and its economic weight.
During first year, students will be introduced to the concepts and methods of five key disciplines: economics, law, history, sociology and political science. On top of this common multidisciplinary core, the Euro-African programme will include courses focused on the African continent in its entirety.
In second year, students are invited to choose specific themes of interest within each of Sciences Po’s five disciplines, and to select a discipline to specialise in. Throughout this year, teaching will be largely comparative, examining regional differences within the African continent.
The Collège universitaire’s educational project aims to unite students by promoting group work and a spirit of innovation, through artistic workshops (introducing African arts), completion of a collective project and initiation into research (through Research work in second year).
The multicultural experience of a programme bringing together students from all over the world and all walks of life helps to develop openness and mutual understanding.
The third year of the programme is a compulsory stay in Africa to undertake wither a student exchange or an internship in a business or public institution.
