Languages are an integral part of an education at Sciences Po. They prepare students for the job market. Mastering a high level of proficiency in English is indispensable for Sciences Po students seeking to enter the job market and achieve professional success. The labor market is international, and both inside and outside Sciences Po, French students are in competition with peers of all nationalities who have a very strong command of English.

There are strict rules governing English language ability. Sciences Po will only award Masters degrees to students who have achieved at least the equivalent of the C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

There are two language labs in Sciences Po, situated on the third level of 56, rue des Sts Pères. Teachers of English, French, German, Arabic, Spanish, Italian, and Russian are available in these labs several times per week.
