Partners
A strong connection with the professionnal world
The Urban School is supported by a broad professional network, which ensures both that its programmes are in tune with contemporary issues of urban policy, and the employability of its students (internships & jobs).
Our courses maintain constant and lasting connections with our partners, through different forms of collaboration:
- long-standing institutional partnerships to support our training and research programmes: internships, capstone projects and group projects, participation in teaching, joint studies, etc.
- annual collaborations with the 40 partners of our group projects
- cooperation with associations or training providers.
This collaboration is enhanced by our alumni network.
In June of each year, the partners are honoured in the framework of the study and exchange day of the Urban School, organised by our Lab.
Our partners
Nexity supported the creation of the Urban school since its origin and is an active partner. The collaboration between them has for purpose to deepen knowledge on common interest subjects as the question of cities transformation, urbanization, urban politics and sustainable development.
Every year several collective projects and\or capstones are led on problems defined beforehand between both partners, who affect the various dynamics of the Nexity’s development. The works led by the students bring data, for example in terms of French and international benchmark, and feed the reflection. These projects are valued by Nexity, during renderingsl meetings, even presentations to a wider public and publications for external use.
Besides Nexity is a supplier. Indeed, the company contributes to the development of the studies and the research conducted under the framework of the program " Cities and territories " of Sciences Po which includes itself a research program called " Cities are back in town ". The object of this program is to launch new perspectives of searches, to realize systematic and deepened works on the Paris area, and to work on a program of metropolises comparison in Europe, America of the North and the South, Asia and Africa.
The National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) is India’s leading national think tank on urban planning and development. As a hub for the generation and dissemination of cutting-edge research in the urban sector, NIUA seeks to provide innovative solutions to address the challenges of a fast urbanising India, and pave the way for more inclusive and sustainable cities of the future.
Under the partnership, capstone projects will be realized by students about the CITIIS program. This joint program of the Housing & Urban Affairs Ministry of India, the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), the European Union and NIUA is focused on building innovative, inclusive and sustainable urban infrastructure across 12 cities in India with an investment of around €140 million.
The Urban School and NIUA also wish to develop capacity building programs for the municipal functionaries, faculty exchange, internships and research fieldworks throughout this collaboration.
UN-Habitat is a United Nations agency dedicated to global urban governance. It aims to promote sustainable cities and to work towards access to decent housing for all. It emerged from the “Habitat I” conference in Vancouver (1976), which began in 1978 with the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UNDP), or UN-Habitat.
The Urban School and UN-Habitat have been working together for several years. Three capstones of the School have been realized with this partner. In addition, many of the School’s students find internships within UN-Habitat (compulsory internship at the end of their studies, summer internship, césure) and some graduates are recruited there.
The memorandum of understanding, signed in February 2020, provides in particular for the development of research partnerships and the eventual implementation of group projects.
The partnership agreement concluded in September 2020 aims both to enrich SOLIDEO’s thinking and practice with contributions from the Urban School’s research and teaching, and to enable the School’s faculty and students to work on the urban challenges of the 2024 Paris Olympics: organisation and management of a major event, the associated urban development, environmental performance and showcasing French urban expertise, the notion of heritage for the region and its population, resilience, etc.
Through the partnership, students in either Master’s or continuing education programmes will carry out two group projects each year. Hosting interns is the second component of the partnership.
SOLIDEO staff also contribute to students’ professional training as guest instructors in the Masters programmes, in workshops, for example. Finally, an annual event is planned to enable the partners to discuss topical issues and share the findings of their joint projects.
La Poste, RTE and the Caisse des dépôts are the partners of our Cities and Digital Technology Chair.
The Caisse des dépôts et consignations, Eiffage, FPI and Gecina are the partners of our Cities, Housing and Real Estate Chair.
The Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI), created in 2001 by Laurence Tubiana and Michel Colombier, is an independent policy research institute based in Paris.
The Institut des Hautes Etudes d'Aménagement des Territoires (IHÉDATE) is aimed at experienced professionals - elected officials, company managers, social and associative actors, journalists, State and local authority officials. Its training develops understanding of territorial issues and the ability to conduct projects in partnership. They promote dialogue between the different professional cultures of the actors who contribute to the development of the territories.
The Plan Urbanisme Construction Architecture (PUCA) is a French interministerial service, attached to the Ministry of Ecology and the Ministry of Territorial Cohesion, attached to the General Directorate for Housing and Nature Planning.

The Group projects partners: actors of a unique educational experience
Practical experience plays a pivotal role in the Urban School's Master's programmes. The projects that punctuate the programme require students to organise as a group to respond to a partner's commission in real-world conditions. They prepare students for the constraints of professional practice, teach them to work as a team, and provide a constantly intense student experience.
For the commissioning organisations, it is a way to participate directly in acquainting future graduates with reality. Partnerships are open to all types of public and private organisations and can take many forms:
