"We are living a thrilling academic, cultural, human experience"

Global Business Law and Governance program
  • The 2018 class of the Global Business Law and Governance programThe 2018 class of the Global Business Law and Governance program

"The 2018 class of the Global Business Law and Governance program is composed of seven students from Sciences Po Law School and eight students from the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. We are studying at Columbia Law School for the Fall semester and we will go back to Paris in January together with fifteen J.D. students to study at Sciences Po and Sorbonne.

We arrived in New York City in August and we enjoyed spending the end of the summer in the Big Apple, with other international students. At Columbia Law School, we were offered a large choice of courses, and many of us registered for the lecture International Commercial Arbitration taught by Professor G. Bermann, the course Foreign Direct Investment and Public Policy taught by Professor Sauvant, and the seminar International Trade Regulation Issues led by Professor P. Mavroidis and Professor M. Janow which gathers leading experts to discuss different dimensions of the regulation of digital trade. Apart from classes, some of us seized opportunities to do research, for example for Professor Bermann on matters related to arbitration, or at the Columbia Center for Sustainable Investment or at the Human Right Institute.

At lunch time, we usually attend talks on various topics. Last week, many of us went to conferences on matters of legal challenges in the European Union with guests from the Court of Justice of the European Union such as Advocate General Nils Wahl. Some of us also attended a series of talks about international investment law and policy.

With the Paris Columbia Law Society, we are currently organizing events in New York and Paris, such as workshops and conferences, in partnership with various law firms and with the help of the French Consulate.

We also make the most of living in New York City, where the cultural life is tremendously vibrant. We enjoy going to museums, to jazz bars and to the Metropolitan Opera House, and to sport events, or simply walking around the city. We frequently escape from Morningside Heights and Harlem to go to Greenwich Village or East Village, two central locations for artists, or to Brooklyn. Some of us also had an amazing moment hiking in the woods north of New York City.

Thanks to this unique, global program, we are living a thrilling academic, cultural, human experience in New York City. We look forward to welcoming the Columbia law students to Paris in the Spring semester."
