International Summer School and Simulation Exercise 2016:

Attached, detached, unmatched? Alternative forms of partnership beyond EU membership

The EUCOPAS Summer School looks for excellent MA students to discuss European challenges with high-level experts and decision makers. EUCOPAS is a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence consisting of the Jean Monnet Chair, Prof. Wessels, University of Cologne and the Jean Monnet Chair in European Union Law and Political Science at Sciences Po, Paris (www.eucopas.uni-koeln.de). EUCOPAS is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.

*Topic of the Summer School:*

In view of the current debate on the consequences of Brexit and the updated EU-Turkey relations, the Summer School will deal with the topic “Attached, detached, unmatched? Alternative forms of partnership beyond EU membership” followed by a Moot Court on “Alternative Partnership Agreements”. The simulation exercise is carried out in cooperation with the PROTEUS project of the University of Cologne.

The Summer School will feature speakers and high-level experts from international organisations, business, politics, as well as recognised researchers. The participants will have the possibility to bring in their own academic/professional contributions and to discuss them with the group and the experts.

*Schedule of the Summer School:*

The Summer School is scheduled to take place in Brussels Monday 12 June – Friday 16 June 2017. The program consists of two parts: Three days of workshops and lectures (including presentations of selected EU practitioners) will be followed by two days of Moot Court. Participants will be asked to prepare for the Summer School in the months prior to this week in Brussels. The Moot Court demands additionally team organisation and role preparation. Participants are required to prepare and argue the position of a member of the Moot Court. Detailed information will be provided once the group of participants has been nominated.

*Qualification of students:*

Students that are eligible for participation shall comply with the qualification of at least graduate (MA) students of political and economic sciences, law, international relations and European studies. Teaching language is English.

*Travel costs*

Participants have to cover their travel costs; accommodation is provided free of charge.
