Tiago Moreira Ramalho

PhD candidate in Political Science

Tiago Moreira Ramalho is Teaching Fellow in Political Science since August 2019. He teaches modules on Comparative Politics, Introduction to Political Science, and Introduction to Public Policy at the Bachelor level of the Euro-American Programme of Sciences Po.

He is also a PhD candidate at the Center for European Studies and Comparative Politics of Sciences Po, under the supervision of Professor Colin Hay. His research, funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), focuses on the legitimation of austerity in Southern Europe during the sovereign debt crisis. In particular, the dissertation explores the narrative construction of the crises in Greece, Portugal, and Spain; the implementation of the austerity programmes negotiated with the Troika; and the role of contentious politics during these crises.

Previously, Tiago Moreira Ramalho earned his Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the New University of Lisbon and his Master’s degree in International Political Economy from King’s College London. He has also worked briefly as an economist in the Portuguese Administration.
